Crawlspaces are a breeding ground to collect moisture for a variety of reasons. Groundwater, leaks in the foundation, or raising water tables can all be the culprit, but when it occurs can cause tremendous damage to your home.
As moisture raises from the crawlspace to the lower level of your home, it can cause buckling of hardwoods, moldy carpets which ultimately creates hazardous conditions in your home.
If moisture is a continuous issue in your home and you believe it is coming from the crawlspace, there are solutions. Emergency Response is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and we service the Anson, Chesterfield, Marlboro, Moore, Richmond, Robeson, and Scotland counties.
With over 20 years of experience restoring properties to their original condition, Emergency Response can protect your home from the natural occurring moisture within your crawlspace.
Crawlspace Encapsulation Process
At Emergency Response, we follow a proven process to successfully encapsulate your crawlspace.
Step 1: Analyze the crawlspace’s current form
Not all crawlspaces are “encapsulation-ready”. Some may need a little preparation in order to ensure future moisture problems do not arise. At Emergency Response, we understand that we may need to perform a bit of pre-work before the encapsulation process, and identify that during our initial walk-through.
Step 2: Determine the solution & prepare the space
Upon reviewing the crawlspace, we will pull together a solid strategy for the encapsulation process of your home. This will include identifying where the moisture source is coming from, identifying how much labor and materials are required and communicating a solid plan.
During this process we will also identify if a sump pump would need to be installed or any other solutions that will prevent future moisture from infiltrating your crawlspace.
Step 3: Install the required vapor barrier
At Emergency Response, we use a 12 mil vapor barrier which is strong enough to withstand wear-and-tear for a long period of time. This barrier keeps moisture from infiltrating into your home, and serves a protective barrier against bugs and rodents.
Step 4: Insulate & Seal the crawlspace entrance
Next, we will insulate and seal any cracks, crevices or openings within the crawlspace. This will assist in keeping moisture out of your home and maintaining a healthy environment.
Step 5: Ensure proper conditioning of air
Last but not least, we will make sure the proper ventilation is flowing through your crawlspace. This may include installing a fan or using other methods to ensure proper temperature to humidity rations.
